Resourceful Children, Supportive Adults

A Life-Skills Program for Schools

The intention of this program is to create an opportunity in our children's school experience to learn and apply some life-skills that are focused on having our children tap into their own internal resources to make decisions that support their well-being.

This program addresses all the partners that are involved in making the experience of school a positive and nurturing one: school leaders, teachers, support staff, children, and parents.

For Kids

Part A:  Nine x (60 - 90) minute Programs (length depending on age group and subject matter) incorporating art, role-playing and activities to develop self-awareness and life-skills:

What Are My Resources

Children are invited to think about their experience of school and what they would like to have accomplished by the end of the school year. They participate in an exercise that focuses on creating an awareness of what they need to do and what resources are available to them to reach their objectives. They are introduced to the skills that they can develop that will support them in becoming resourceful and this also serves as an introduction to this program and what they can look forward to.

Who Am I at School

The objective of this session is to give the children an opportunity to reflect and gain clarity around the different relationships that they hold at school and how they identify themselves in those relationships. The children will learn what questions they can ask themselves about those relationships that will support them in making decisions that will create a positive school experience.

Choosing What's Right for Me

The objective of this session is to sensitize the children to the extent to which they create their experience of school through the choices that they make. What choices are available to them? How do they go about making the choices that are right for them?

Communicating My Needs

The objective of this session is to introduce the children to the concept of communication, to gain clarity around the intention and process of communication. The children will be presented with skills that will make them more effective at communicating their needs.

Follow-up Discussions

The objective of this session is to reinforce the concepts and skills introduced in the first three sessions and have the children share what their experience has been, what they have learned, what hasn't worked, what has and what to do to keep the momentum going.

What Glasses Am I Wearing

This session uses the analogy of glasses to introduce the concepts of perspective and diversity. The objective is to have children understand that we are all different, not right, wrong, good or bad but simply different. Children are invited to approach differences with curiosity rather than judgment and to become comfortable with who they are.

Using My Energy

The objective of this session is to sensitize the children to the energetic beings that they are and to teach them some skills to gain access to that energy. They will experience and become more aware of the energy that is their bodies and feel the movement of that energy through meditations. They will also gain access to internal states (seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling) inside of them through visualizations.

Assessing My Results

The objective of this session is to give the children an opportunity to look back at what they had wanted to create for the year and to assess what has actually happened. What were the key highlights of their school year that supported them in achieving or not achieving their goals. What resources were useful and what internal resources and skills have they developed that were also key elements of their success.

Follow-Up Discussions

The objective of this session is to reinforce the concepts and skills introduced in the program and have the children share what their experience has been, what they have learned, what hasn't worked, what has and what to do to keep the momentum going.
